Described as one of the world’s most beautiful vineyards, Klein Constantia is set amidst ancient trees and lush greenery on the upper foothills of the Constantiaberg, with superb views across the Constantia Valley and False Bay.
Our 146 hectare wine estate originally formed part of “Constantia”, a vast property established in 1685 by Simon van der Stel, the first governor of the Cape. This particular valley was chosen not only for its beauty, but also for the decomposed granite soils on its slopes, gently cooled by ocean breezes.
The perfect location for cool climate wines, Klein Constantia produces some of South Africa’s top wines, including one of the world’s best natural sweet wines, Vin de Constance.
Klein Constantia Wines
The Estate range elegantly expresses the unique terroir of the Constantia Valley, with a portfolio that includes one of the Cape’s top Sauvignon Blancs, a Riesling, a Méthode Cap Classique Brut, and an excellent Cabernet Sauvignon. In some years an Estate Shiraz and Chardonnay are also produced.
In 2005, a unique Sauvignon Blanc vineyard block called ‘The Perdeblok’ (Afrikaans for ‘horse’s block’) was bottled separately for the first time. This limited release Sauvignon Blanc, ‘Perdeblokke’, has been hailed as one of the best single vineyard white wines in South Africa.
